Jefferson Apartment Group Delivers J Optimist Park Three Hundred Fifty Unit Six Story Mid Rise In Charlotte

Jefferson Apartment Group has delivered J Optimist Park, a 350-unit, six-story mid-rise in Charlotte, North Carolina, located at 1130 N. College Street on a 5-acre site in the Optimist Park neighborhood. The property sits adjacent to Optimist Hall and just outside the Uptown business district, positioning the community near transit and employment centers.

The building’s red-brick and ironwork details reflect the neighborhood’s history as a mill village and railroad hub for the textile industry in the early 20th century. "J Optimist Park checks all the boxes for successful multifamily. In addition to being in a strong market for job growth, it's close to transit and has best-in-class amenities," said Greg Van Wie, JAG Senior Vice President and Development Partner. "Every aspect was thoughtfully designed to reflect and respect the rich history of our Mill District location."

J Optimist Park offers one- and two-bedroom homes ranging from 523 to 1,197 square feet, with select units featuring private balconies and Uptown views. Residences include plank flooring, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and tile backsplashes.

Outdoor amenities comprise a resort-style pool, two courtyards, an outdoor yoga lawn, and a covered porch with a double-sided fireplace. Interior shared spaces include a lounge, game room, large fitness center, open coworking space, pet spa, and bike storage with a maintenance bench. The site provides 467 resident parking spaces, which equates to roughly 1.33 parking spaces per unit, delivered across garage and surface options.

J Optimist Park is managed by JAG Management Company. The management platform continues to expand in the Carolinas, with nearly 1,500 units under management in the Research Triangle area. United Bank provided financing for the project.

As multifamily product in core urban neighborhoods continues to emphasize access, placemaking, and experiential amenities, J Optimist Park illustrates a development approach that integrates local context, unit-level finishes, and a broad amenity package to serve a diverse urban renter base. The project highlights how historically informed design and operational continuity can support new supply adjacent to employment and transit nodes.
